Album of the Week (January 26 - February 1): Actress -'Ghettoville'

The fourth (and possibly final) release from London electronic producer Actress is a fairly jarring experience from start to finish.  It manages to create a uniquely dark sonic world that has the capability to completely engulf you if you allow it.  The album clocks in at an intimidating 69 minutes, and as far as Actress records go, Ghettoville is easily his least dance-able release, but with the wide array of sounds and ideas on this record it could be his finest:

Yumi Zouma - "A Lonely Walk Home For Parted Lovers"

Here is the third of the four tracks from the upcoming self-titled Yumi Zouma EP due out  February 11th via Cascine:

Banks - "Brain" (Prod. By Shlohmo)

Singer-songwriter Banks and electronic producer Shlohmo (both from L.A.) have teamed up to for a song off Banks' upcoming record due out later this year on Harvest records:

Big Boi - "CPU 2.0" (Feat. Phantogram & Sade) & "Thom Yarborough" (Dungeoneze Remix)

Outkast's Big Boi is releasing a series of mashups featuring his verses, this is one of them.  CPU 2.0 is the Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors track "CPU" mashed up with Sade's "Nothing Can Come Between Us":

Also, here is "Thom Pettie" mashed up with Yarbrough & Peoples - "Don't Waste Your Time":

Cloud Nothings - "I'm Not Part Of Me"

Cleveland's Cloud Nothings are back with the first track off their upcoming album, Here and Nowhere Else, due out April 1st:

N.A.S.A. & Karen O - "I Shot the Sheriff" (Bob Marley Cover)

I Shot The Sheriff (feat. Karen O)

I guess today is the day of cover songs.  First was Chvrches covering Bauhaus, now we have N.A.S.A. & Karen O covering the Bob Marley song "I Shot the Sheriff":

Chvrches - "Bela Lugosi's Dead" (Bauhaus Cover)

Here is a cover of the Bauhaus track "Bela Lugosi's Dead" performed by Chvrches.  The track is taken from the soundtrack to the upcoming film "Vampire Academy":

Tycho - "Montana"

Now a three piece band, Tycho releases another track from their upcoming LP.  This one is called "Montana" and certainly sounds different than anything previously released under the Tycho name:

Keep Shelly in Athens - "Old Time Glory"

Apparently, this is the end of KSiA as we know them:

"As you may know already Sarah P. is no longer the singer of KSiA.  Moving forward, Keep Shelly in Athens will continue with a new singer - as well as occasional collaborations with guest vocalists.  A new album will be announced later this year!! - Stay tuned!"

That was taken from the bands facebook page (where you will also find a free download of this track).  Sad news, but here is the final track by the original members of KSiA:

Album of the Week (January 19-25): Sevendeaths - "Concrete Misery"

Kanye West - Black Skinhead (Thundercat Bass Version)

A little late on this one since this blog didn't exist when it was released, but here's Flying Lotus & The Bass God, Thundercat, remixing the Yeezus track "Black Skinhead".

Arca & Jesse Kanda: SSENSE presents FLUID SILHOUETTES

Yumi Zouma - "SĂ„lka Gets Her Hopes Up"

Second single from Yumi Zouma's upcoming self-titled EP.  The EP is out on Feb. 11.

Holly Herndon - "Chorus" [Official Video]

GEMS - "Don't Cry" (Seal Cover)

I honestly cannot think of a better way to follow up a solid EP than with a cover of the greatest artist of the 90s, Seal (just realized that Seal is actually his first name, that's fucked up):
